We were laying in your bed I was upset You were stroking my hair like the wind strokes the leaves You told me it was okay to be upset and to cry You much rather have me cry than hold it in You much rather have me cry in your arms than alone You held me whispering soft things to me After I wiped my eyes you gently held me As if I might shatter if you held me any tighter You gazed at me softly As if I would crumble if you didn't You talked to me As if you were scared to blow me away with your exhale When I hugged you You held on tight As if I might break if you let go You talked to me As if I couldn't hear you You watched me As if I might disappear if you looked away You always knew what I needed Sometimes before I even realized
