Yesteryear
Sometimes, I have the warmest thoughts of yesteryear Born from a love of us when you first came near A song of melancholy molded to a glad refrain With memories of us in sunshine and in rain From our beginning, we knew that I must go And, if I should return, we could not know Our love had formed in just the shortest time We hoped our fates would once again entwine The golden glimmer in those first weeks we shared Cheered our hearts and showed how much we cared Although we both were young; our love so very new Then, our parting was soon over and I returned to you With this dusty relic of a memory gone by I see a lifetime story in the tale of you and I And, yes, it seems so silly in the here and now But it felt very serious then, in yesteryear, somehow
