Why I'm Writing This
Why I'm Writing This R Walking to Evergreen Elementary school Inside the white line And passing telephone wires where You could see sneakers hanging By their laces Slowly you were becoming What you would become. The school buzzed With excitement as I waited for Miss Barbara Who looked like A retired movie star Have us place our hands Over our hearts And say the Pledge of allegiance. I was seven. The world had gone Nuclear And you could feel Something strange was about to happen. Or maybe What could happen But it wasn't something I thought about too much. A kid passed out An assignment To write a poem I tried it And I found out I could do it. That's why I'm writing this.
