Whispers
“We swore we’d never forget.” Take me back to those good ol' days, To our silly, goofy, carefree ways. Faint smiles and sunsets dissolved, The scent of winter, Dreams of forever, unresolved. We wrote our names in the sand, With chuckles, we thought we’d carved them deep, But they were lost to time’s relentless sweep. In a world of empty spaces, We lived in fleeting, ephemeral whispers. Now, faded ones are all that’s left. We wove yesterday’s tapestries together, With tender hands, blissfully unaware That you’d unravel them, thread by thread, Turning our promises into dread. Wearing thin, now I rock back and forth, Hearing our laughter fade into the void you left, Watching memories slip away, patterns obscured, All leaving a fleeting trace, A reflection in the shattered remains of my heart, The same heart you swore you’d cherish, Then turned to stone. I feel the sudden chill Of the warm summer nights, As memories dissolve In the dawn’s first light. They first flickered Like stars in the night sky, Now swallowed by the dust Of ghost towns where echoes lie. “Now your promise is just a distant dream.”
