Where The Rifle Drops
I sit along a deer path deep in the woods. No shoes on my feet, A gun in my lap, humming Swing Low in my heart. My spirit is high. long did I wait beside that path. hopes fleeting, then I hear a twig snap, like lightning struck placing a blessing in my lap. a Deer came prancing up the trail from the deep woods. lickin its nose, twitching its tail, all senses scanned for danger. A Buck, full velvet, twelve points, with, hey! a lucky 13th point. A drop tine. I raised my rifle to preform the Act... then my eyes met a soul. I was blinded by a sacred light... I dropped my rifle Blurry vision cleared, the Deer before me. sensing a change in my heart it bowed low to the earth, then slowly walked away. I awoke as if I were dead. Swing low in the distance. I never needed that 30-30 rifle again.
