When the heart stills
The heart hums low, an endless tune. Each beat a whisper, soft yet cruel. Beneath the ribs, a muted cry, Yearning relief, a final sigh. Shadows stretch, the daylight wanes, This weary pulse, its fragile chains. Perhaps in silence, peace shall fall, When night consumes the aching call. This tired heart wades in silence, Each beat a whispering defiance. Will the night bring its peace, Or must I yearn for death’s release? A shadowed end, a quiet cease, Perhaps the only soft increase— Relief, it looms beyond the fight, Where hearts dissolve in endless night. (Poem was inspired by Steven Morrissey)
