when the heart says no
You're a photograph, faded and worn, But the colors still burn, in the place you were born. I try to put you away, in a box on the shelf, But your laughter, your smile, keeps calling to myself. They say time heals, and rivers will flow, But my river is frozen, locked in the snow. You're a memory too heavy, I stumble and strain, To carry you onward, through sunshine and rain. I know I should let go, untether the rope, But the thought of forgetting, fills me with hope, False hope, maybe, a whisper of lies, Reflected in tear-filled, love-weary eyes. You're too precious to lose, a diamond so bright, Even if holding you, darkens my light. So I'll carry your weight, this beautiful pain, Forever remembering, whispering your name.
