When Death came
Come inside my blanket fort, No need for the entry word. You're the Queen of Everything My rock, my soul mate, my world. Death crept up behind the curtain And snatched you through the door. Ripped from my arms, blink of an eye, Suddenly you're no more. No time to beat Him with my pillow, No chance to bargain or plead. Blindsided by His callous theft, His malice. His cruelty. His greed. I exist here stunned, knocked for six In the deep, dark depths of my fort. Broken, shattered, numb, a shell, You're my single and only thought. No one else may enter my blanket fort But they can hang around outside. Their hearts and arms can stop me being Swept away with the tide. I cling to them, hold on from afar To keep alight the flame. The flame that burns inside my soul, The one that burns my shame. Why couldn't I grab you by the hand? So tight and never let go. He laughs at me, filled with guilt. To Him she's just Jane Doe. A selfless angel, golden heart. Loved you at no cost. Lit up a room like no one else. The worlds greatest loss.
