What's Left to Give
I don’t know how to play the part, Of girlfriend with a guarded heart. For once, I was a wife in full, With love so fierce, so deep, so whole. I gave my all, down to the bone, In every word, in every tone. I bent and bloomed, I broke and stayed, For love I thought would never fade. I crossed lines I swore I wouldn’t pass, Lived dreams too fragile, built of glass. Each moment wrapped in something more, Than what a simple title bore. And now I sit with quiet doubt, What love is in me, what ran out? Not that I fear to feel again, But wonder: do I still remain? What’s left of me, I cannot see, For love once took the best of me. And yet I hope, though scared to try, That love can bloom again—not die.
