What is Death? (Part 2)
Another look at you looking back at you, see how much greyer you've become You've now hit 50, on the way down, life becomes undone Retirement talks and health concerns replace youthful excite You close your eyes, lay your head, and hope this is not the night The 60s flash, the 70s zoom, and the 80s start creeping in You start to understand more than guess that this is really the end The kids grown up and moved away, your love gone to better lands Your hourglass, once half full, now sits more than half empty of fading grains of sand One last look into the mirror, the terror on your face You make your arrangements, appoint those left to care for your dying place At last, you lay, staring up at the ceiling, a light begins to appear At this moment, a realization, the end is really here As you recollect on all your deeds, good, bad, and in between You draw a breath, exhale one last, and your eyes no longer gleam Now, a wickless candle, a final buzzer, a beautiful life, ceases to exist No matter the effort, how hard you tried, how much you could resist I ask again, what is death, and where does it come from? It's a complete cycle, a movie of memories wrapped up with the setting sun.
