What i couldn't be...
I see it now — the mirror doesn’t lie, The selfish words, the stubborn pride, The ways I held back when I should’ve tried, And how I let you go… while thinking I tried. I used to think love meant being strong, But strength without softness is just being wrong. You needed presence — I gave delay, You needed warmth — I pulled away. I counted “me” more than “we,” And in doing so… I lost we. I spoke when I should’ve listened close, Held my ego when I should’ve held you most. You gave me chances, love in disguise, And I wore blindfolds over both my eyes. Now someone else stands where I used to be, And strangely… I hope he loves you better than me. I hope he shows up on your tired days, Learns your silence, and hears what you don’t say. I hope he brings you peace, not doubt, Holds your hand when the lights go out. It hurts to wish another man your touch, But if it’s real, if he gives enough… Then maybe losing you was what I had to learn, To know that love is something you earn. And though my chest still aches at night, I hope your heart’s finally held right. You deserved more than I knew how to give, So may his love show you how it feels to truly live.
