What happened in the summer?
Summer's warmth brought us together bright, A spark ignited, and our hearts took flight. We danced in sunshine, laughter free, But before the seasons changed, you and I couldn't be. The world outside had its say, Voices loud, against our way. I hid my feelings, though they were true, Afraid to face what others wouldn't do. Yet, you still felt the flame, A love that lingered, though we weren't the same. We found our way back, a second chance, But this time, your heart wavered, lost its dance. You went back to what was familiar and known, A love that wasn't new, but one you'd called home. I stood aside, with tears unshed, Watching you with her, my heart longed to be said. Your eyes, once bright with love for me, Now dimmed, as you settled comfortably. I forced a smile, though pain was real, A friendship formed, but love's reveal. You're with someone who's pretty in her own way, But in my eyes, she can't compare to the beauty I display. Yet, beauty's not the measure of love's might, Perhaps that's why your heart chose her light. I wear a mask, a brave face hides, The ache within, the tears I've cried. We're just friends now, a label we wear, But in my heart, love still lingers there.
