What Could Have Been..
We used to laugh beneath the sky, Never thinking time would fly. We'd climb the trees and run all day, Certain things would stay that way. Our last swim came and drifted past, Not knowing it would be our last. Our final game, our final climb, Lost somewhere within the hands of time. We shared our smiles, we shared our fun, Never thinking it could all be done. But now the days keep rolling through, And every one reminds me of you. The trees still sway, the skies still gleam, But nothing feels quite as it seemed. For though the world moves on somehow, I miss those little moments now. Our last laugh, our last hello, Became goodbyes we didn't know. And what hurts most, if truth be told, Is not the memories that I hold. It's every memory left unseen, Every moment that could have been. Every joke, each smile anew, Every future that included you. π
