walls of silence
I gave my all, every part of me, Poured light into shadows you hid too deep to see. Held my breath in the quiet, braced for your storm, Yet I stayed, wrapped you close, tried to keep you warm. I traced every scar, softened each fall, But the walls you held up—they were stronger than all. I knocked, I waited, though your silence was loud, Tried to catch every tear that you wouldn’t allow. When you whispered "a break" with a voice so low, It wasn’t anger that broke me, only the echo. Of the love I had given, left cold and unheard, By the heart I had trusted, but kept me deferred. So now I stand here, lost, beneath a gray sky, Watching love fade in the blink of an eye. Not for what I had done, but for walls never down, For a love built so high that I couldn’t turn 'round.
