Wall of Glass
Years of contention yielded a fresh start, but I failed to see our time for what is was. Though fragile and confined, it held a meaning worthy of living by. Much like our relationship that time chose to nullify. That jilted day felt like a fever dream. Denial greeted me with a bitter grip. The ominous news beckoned my sour cries. A truth that devoured me, merciless and cold as you laid there helpless with vacant eyes. Sweaty palms anchored to a cold wall of glass. Lost in painful rumination as the wretched waiting game ensued. I was nothing but a spectator slowly coming unglued. That wall of glass bared my grim reflection. An exhibit of tubes, machines and scrubs of blue. My last bit of hope shriveled upon hearing 'There's nothing we can do.' Six years have passed, altered and bereft. Yet, this longing is here to stay. To have at least said I love you before you slipped away. A wall of glass forbade any closure. Restricted our goodbyes. I'm sorry Dad, for all the mistakes we couldn't rectify. I know someday our fresh start will recommemce. Perhaps when I'm old and gray. Hand in hand, you'll greet me with your warming smile as that wall of glass finally breaks away.
