I can go on with my life pretending That you never existed, never breathed, But deep within, my heart is apprehending What has been lost; it will not be relieved. In morning’s light, I’ll paint a pleasant smile, And hide the pain that lingers in my eyes, While memories, like shadows, play awhile, And in my soul, their echoes slowly rise. Through yonder fields, I’ll walk with careless glee, Engaging fully in life’s vibrant haste, Yet, deep inside, your absence still will be A haunting melody, no time can erase. For though I pretend you’ve vanished away, In my heart’s alcove, you shall forever stay.
