Unseen Tear
The dread of the night, The silence in the light, A cup of wine to calm the tide Of all I keep from sight. The ticking of the clock, Each second seals the lock Upon a room that never was, Yet lingers in my mind. I held onto a breath, And choked upon its end, While shadows wandered through the halls Of roads that could have been. Forsaken in the dunes of the dead, Where nameless echoes sleep, I search among forgotten stars, For promises I could not keep. Once, I called into the dark, And thought I heard a sound, A fleeting voice the wind conceived Before it touched the ground. The years have worn their grooves in stone, The seasons bled and passed, Yet somewhere in the space between I linger with the past. For grief is not a grave alone, Nor love a thing confined by time; Some losses leave no footprints behind, Yet haunt us all the same.
