unseen anchor
The world has traded its noise for a sigh, As the shadows stretch long and lean; A vast, dark blue has claimed the sky, With a silence that settles between. Distance is a map of empty space, Of coordinates cold and wide, But the night is a soft, familiar place Where the spirit has nowhere to hide. The air is a blanket, heavy and still, Wrapping the roof and the stone; It climbs the slope of the furthest hill To remind us we aren’t alone. For the same stars pulse in a rhythmic beat, Like a heart that refuses to tire; And the thought of the day when two shall meet Is enough of a winter fire.
