Unremarkably Me
All my life, I've been told I'm not ugly, I asked myself, "What am I, then, truly?" Deep down, I knew the truth, it's plain to see, I'm just simple, average as can be. When I walk into a room, no one turns, I'm just a face, for which no one yearns. My looks are average, my talk is bland, The way I laugh, the way I stand. Invisible, blending in the crowd, Even my voice is never too loud. Sometimes I bore myself, it’s true, Who likes being average? Not me, not you. Everyone craves to be the star, To shine brightly, to be who they are. But why am I stuck feeling this way? I hate myself more every day. Is it self-loathing or others’ views, That paint my world in these blue hues? Maybe it’s both, tangled and tight, Caring too much steals my light.
