Tunnel Vision
The light at the end of the tunnel isn't so bright anymore. Its faint gleam is nearly invisible. When you hide behind a mask that clouds your vision, And when the tears prick your eyes with a wide grin on your face, All you can see is the walls slowly closing in. Like a door at the end, And all you can wonder is if someone is waiting on the other side, Waiting for the door to open again. Although your eyes burn from the salty tears, And the mask you wear begins to crack, You glue it up so no one sees Your puffy eyes and faltering smile. You notice someone- a friend- falling behind, So you slow down and try to help them find their light. You dry their tears and make bigger openings in the mask So that they can see clearer. Yet you could never do the same. Because you don't want to see what's at the end of your tunnel.
