True Name
True Name by Jack A.S. Dunce I've lived by a name I've thought I've defined abiding by ideals I grew up in But is this name I'm known for truly mine? Each one of my life choices I've aligned with some old dream for which I was begotten I've lived by a name I've thought I've defined The more this vision of me I refine, the greater my unease with my own skin But is this name I'm known for truly mine? In my mind it's all by my own design Impart to an old classic my own spin I've lived by a name I've thought I've defined This gnawing doubt I brushed off as benign turned out to be a critical linchpin But is this name I'm known for truly mine? I'll stop my weaving with this flawed twine but with which mask do I start to begin? I've lived by a name I've thought I've defined But is this name I'm known for truly mine? ©️pgmr 08/07/2024
