TORTOISE ON A TREE
it has been often spoken that should you see a tortoise up a tree it didn't get there by its own efforts and I come to tire my mind to think of a people who would grow thorns and live their lives complaining of their feet always being pricked of a people who'd better mourn you when your emaciated remains buried than quench your swollen tongue a people who'll bring arms when all we need is a plough a people who'll rain praise when all we need is a peaceful dirge a people who'll troop to your home upon your demise carrying baskets when all you needed in life was a nod of approval we people who help a tortoise up a tree and begin questioning how it got there
