Too New
Maybe you're too new? This relationship is so fresh. Fresh like the crisp air of an autumn morning, or an early sunset. Like the wind that has yet to gust and shake throughout the trees. Maybe you're too new? Has this gone too fast? Fast like the sports car when they pass our class. Maybe it's just setting in? Setting in like the soil underneath my feet. Under the surface of the broken ground. Broken like a car wreck or a fallen tree. A tree fallen as though it has been hit by a gust of love, or an act of punishment. Punishment as though you hadn't turned in your homework. It's just homework, you brush it off. You brush it off as though it was a bit of dust on your shoulder, or an old friend hiding in the corner. Maybe you're too new? I haven't seen the full you. I can't tell if the you I know, is the you that you could be hiding. I hope this is real. I hope this lasts as long as is healthy. I want to succeed with you. I hope this isn't the wrong way to turn. I hope this isn't just a funny joke. A joke like the ones I tell my mom, or the ones that hurt my friends. The jokes that hurt my friends hurt me too. They hurt like someone pushing a dull knife into my back. Like you were my friend, until you weren't.
