to the sunshine and beyond
in the dim edges of life, where the moon is the only thing that glows through your darkest sky, when even the stars are asleep, and it's just you and the moon. you know the moon shines only because the sun lights it from behind, right? the moon never shines alone; it carries the sun's radiance, the light that gives it life. and darling, i long to be your sun— the one who lets you glow, who helps you become the light in the darkest night. let me be your backup. let me see you shine. let me watch you become the brightest thing in the quietest world. and even if we drift apart, seeing each other only in passing—like the sun and the moon— i still want to love you, the way the sun reflects its light so your moon can keep shining. and when the time finally comes, let the sun (me) hold the moon (you) in the sky where you cross my horizon, and turn the whole earth into an eclipse.
