Tides of Silence
Tides of Silence by Jack A.S. Dunce I took my time wading slowly to shore From an afternoon of frolic and sun In warm crystalline waters of the beach, With waves lapping my back at rhythmic run. The gos'mer clouds dotted the ginger sky As the sun retired to its hilly lair. The zephyr pressed a kiss on sunburnt cheeks And the breath caught a whiff of briny air. A sudden tug on the waist wrenched me back and sweep me skywards in one surging heave, A cascading deluge devouring all, Plunging to black everything on its track. Then, cold darkness engulfed the light and warmth; The eyes burning with pain of paper cuts; A breath inundated by murky depths, As if lead hands pressed down into my guts. My bid to swim reduced to floundering; Immersed deep in some tragic pantomime Where scenes of silent screams kept repeating -- Eternity spent in suspended time. (Those on the beach, standing, Only deemed me waving.) ©️pgmr, 12/09/2024
