THROWING MYSELF A ROPE
Stepping into quicksand Slowly sinking Kicking and struggling Only to get pulled further in Fear and panic engulfing me Drumsticks pounding on my heart in irregular rhythms Sand pushing against my chest I'm gasping for air Finally I let myself relax I expose more of my body to the quicksand until I find myself floating Calmly upon the surface In the distance I see a friend Slowly moving closer She throws me a rope I realise that friend is me The quicksand starts to dissolve Until it becomes nothing more Than memories Of my own fears and anxieties
