Through the Cosmos

Through the Cosmos by Jack A.S. Dunce I've tried to count the stars in the night sky; These cosmic jewels always dazed the eyes, Like how the children wonder what they are, But most, like me, could only watch afar. I tried to chase the sun across the sands, the fire the gods kindled to light the lands, Enthralled the droves and bowed down to by kings, But fly too close -- I've crashed with melted wings. I tried to serenade and swoon the moon, Her grace and beauty even stirred monsoons, As told in songs of old, still etched in stone, But I'm mere man -- she always danced alone. I crawled on back to stand on my own feet, But kept on stumbling, falling out of grace. Did Sisyphus ever admit defeat? Because I did -- embraced the void of space. ©️pgmr 11/23/2024
