Thoughts
I don't know where you are right now, But my thoughts follow you blindly. They doubtfully meander in their flight, Unseeing of your true moments, Chasing wisps of changing clouds In a quick-winded sky. They tail you into the future, too. Not yours, of course- that is yours alone. Instead they weave in and out, seeking your silhouette In a hundred thousand dream worlds That do not share our dawns and dusks. They follow you as you walk paved stones Where the night has quietly settled And the lamplight illuminates- Well, it illuminates- you, and- They follow you again to autumn, To an open-air market. You pick up pumpkins and trinkets. The air smells like dry leaves, And you buy a corndog And settle down next to- To- And then the thoughts find you In a mall now, And you're laughing here, Pointing at storefronts, offering a smile Letting sunlight trace window-grids Onto your hair and jacket As you share a joke with- You're hand in hand with m- My thoughts sail gently. Each of these worlds, with your faint visage shining through. Trivial moments, unmemorable, But memories that come unbidden. Simulacra Of undreamt dreams. Here I am, And there flock my thoughts, Seeking your afterimage.
