This Pain
In the depths of darkness, a love once sought, But what I found was pain, the very thing I fought. Promises of protection, a shield so strong, But all I received were echoes of a broken song. You spoke of never hurting, a deceitful guise, For the wounds you inflicted left scars, despised. Trusting you completely, my heart I did bare, Yet you took it for granted, leaving me in despair. In my hour of need, you turned your back, Leaving me alone, my strength under attack. Don't ask about my well-being, if you won't stay, To lift me from the depths, where demons sway. A piece of my shattered heart, forever yours to hold, But I refuse to let your grip on me unfold. I'll mend my broken spirit, find a brand new start, For I know now my worth, I've claimed my depart. Love was never mine, that truth may remain, But it won't define me, nor cause me endless pain. I deserve affection true, a love that will adore, A connection that won't leave me broken and sore. So, I thank you for the lessons taught in strife, For teaching me what love should never be, life. I am finally free, embracing what I'm worth, No longer confined, I've emerged, a phoenix rebirthed.
