This coward's comfort
Your opinion on this We met when I hit rock bottom — like the sun and the moon crossing the same sky. You shed light on me; with your smile, I clung to the only warmth I had. I was a lonely soul seeking company, and you gave it freely. I thought I was woven into your threads, only to learn you treat all the same. I forgot I needed a different light; I forgot we were not alike. I was broken to the core — broken since birth — and maybe, once, I believed there could be a cure. How wrong I was. You were the only one I had, but to you, I was one of many you stumbled upon. I was an eclipse: when I faded, you moved on. I woke to reality — forgotten, like everyone else. Once more I became what I always was. I whimpered and crawled back into my shell, a coward returning to comfort. I sought death, but feared the pain before it, so I stayed — afraid to leave, turning instead to delusional authors and borrowed stories. Slowly I learned to fear the light I once chased, living in the shadow with no plan to reach the outside wall.
