The Weight of the Tide
Will my very last drop of tear, Be the last time I write how I feel? Will my eyes finally stay dry, When I have no more tears to cry? The voices in my head make a mess, As the pain runs down into my chest. Words that no one understands, Like writing secrets in the sands. I hear the ones who call their plea, On the same road, screaming to be free. I take my steps so carelessly, Because I am not loved fully. People love the ocean’s blue, But fear the deepness of the view. They love the shore, so safe and narrow, But fear the depths and all my sorrow. I try to keep my surface still, To hide the ache and bitter chill. I smile so they don't see the dark, Or see the waves that leave a mark. I'm tired of the quiet fight, Of being lonely in the light. I'm more than just a pretty view, I have a heart that’s breaking too. They like the waves that touch their skin, Then run away when they fall in. They want the sun, but hide from rain, They want my joy, but not my pain. My simple wish is for a friend, Not scared of waves that never end. Someone who stays when it is dim, Because they know just how to swim.
