The Weight of Becoming
I lost myself in your embrace, Chasing dreams I couldn’t trace. I wore the mask, I played the role, Yet love still left a hollow soul. I cut the parts that you despised, Shaped myself to fit your eyes. But even when I stood so tall, I never felt like me at all. You said you loved the man I grew, Yet never loved the man you knew. I was never meant to change, For love should never feel like chains. Did you ever see my pain? Did you ever love the same? Or was I just a stepping stone, A love you carved and left alone? Now I stand, a ghost in time, A heart rebuilt, but not as mine. For if love means to fade away, Then maybe love was never made to stay.
