**The Waiting Game**
They always ask me why I wait, What’s worth it there, what’s my fate? Does it matter, what’s the gain? Those who leave, leave again. ________________________ But I know, I gain nought, Just the pain that waiting’s brought. Still, I can’t be the first to part, I can’t bear to break a heart. For I know the sting of being left, The empty echo of neglect. Those same scenes on replay, I might lose myself someday. But it’s not just for something gained, Or for them to do the same. Once I care, I truly stay, I wait until the final day. I need you to know, I was there, Till the end, through every care. Even if it all was lies, At least I’ll have my goodbyes. I can’t be the first to turn away, I’ll tell you not to be like me someday. I know it’s wrong, the way I cling, But it hurts too much to cut the string. So if you’re the first to leave, it’s fine, I won’t hate it or say it’s a waste of time. I cherish what we had, even now, I won’t stop you, I’ve learned how. But still, it feels like a wound, A silent ache, a solemn tune. I’ve grown used to goodbyes, But it’s still a hurt I can’t deny.
