The Unseen smile
A practiced curve, a polite disguise, To hide the stillness in my eyes. No joy within, no bubbling mirth, Just echoes of a weary earth. I blend among the faces bright, Lest difference casts a harsher light. And church, a solace, yet a throng, Where silent prayers feel drawn and long. A sea of souls, I stand apart, Though seeking Him with all my heart. For in this life, what purpose lies? A question whispered to the skies. A heavy sigh, a silent plea, For quietude to welcome me. Yet in that longing, deep and low, A tiny ember starts to glow. A fragile thread, a whispered name, The Lord I seek, through doubt and shame. Perhaps in Him, a purpose waits, Beyond these solitary gates.
