The Sleepless Watch
The clock ticks on, a metronome of night, Eyes wide open, chasing shadows in the dark. Sleep, a distant dream just out of sight, While thoughts swirl like embers, barely a spark. The ceiling stares back, an unblinking gaze, As minutes melt into hours, silent and slow. I trace constellations in the mind’s maze, Seeking solace where none dares to show. The world outside slumbers, wrapped in peace, Yet here, the mind races, refusing to rest. Each breath a countdown that never seems to cease, Each heartbeat a drum in a sleepless chest. Memories replay like a broken reel, Echoes of words, unspoken, unsaid. Regrets weave a web too tangled to heal, While I lie awake, tethered to this bed. Dawn breaks, a cruel and silent thief, Stealing the night, yet no sleep in sight. I rise with the sun, carrying the grief, Of another night lost to the endless fight. But still, I wait, for the night to come, Hoping that sleep will finally find me, That I’ll slip into dreams and find peace, In a world where insomnia doesn’t bind me.
