The Shadow of Flight
I thought I was fine, serene and bright, But then the wanting, dark as night, A strange desire, to take my flight, Though death's cold shadow fills with fright. Looking back, what do I see? A life I wish would cease to be, The crimson lines, a tragedy, A shallow, hollow company. They cannot fill the empty space, The chasm of past, time can't erase, I beg of God, to end this chase, Yet only long for pain's release. The void they left, the pain's sharp sting, I hide it all, no truth I bring, A mask I wear, no joy to sing, While all I crave, is vanishing.
