The Scars That Ache
The wounds have healed, Yet they bleed. The scars they left Remind of the theft. They theft the time When we meant to fly. They theft the roof Where we touched the sky. They theft the moments When we laughed as well. They theft the freedom We long for now and then. They judged us through scores, They made us feel bored. The nightmares we had They have never known. They theft the air That was ours to breathe. They theft the real us, Once gentle, once sweet. Now the nut has shells, As hard as hell. Now rivers flow through eyes, Wandering in silence. Like flowers once bloomed, We used to smile. Now it feels as though The flowers have died. The fragrance of air Vanished along with care. The sky grew dark; No star sparked there. Yet a hope still says, “They’ll understand one day.” The wounds have healed, But the scars still ache. ~Eirlys Cygnelle
