The Roots Know My Name
The garden blooms where daylight never dared to stay Fed by the tears I buried and forgot to pray Each stem remembers what my lips denied Every flower knows where my better self died Moonlight drifts down from the heavens like silver dust As I drift along these thorned vines of promises rust These petals continue to whisper their names somber As these roses laugh of love and soul liveth no longer I shield my eyes as roots embrace bones of lives lost The moss clings to each of them like regret I never toss No matter how hard I try I can never leave these gates of rusted key The walls close in leaving all air escape like great ribs that leaveth none free Finally I see what seems to be a familiar face A caretaker who works diligently with grace I look upon his countenance to be left in horror As his features are my own as if reflected by mirror I realize as I sit alone with my own company Each flower here is what I've done in its full pungency This shame and regret I forever rest to cater As each of these trees shed like burning paper
