The Returns
I was happy, feeling light, Smiling under the warmth of daylight. But then, a thought, a whisper inside, A memory I thought I’d set aside. Why was I happy? What’s the cause? For a moment, I forgot my flaws. But then, the pain, it starts to creep, A reminder of wounds I couldn’t keep. It’s like a habit, a twisted friend, Where happiness fades and hurt ascends. I’m happy, and then I’m sad, It’s the past that makes me feel so bad. The joy is fleeting, so soft, so bright, But the pain returns, like day turns to night. I try to hold on, to stay in the light, But the hurt pulls me back, with all its might. Why does it return, this familiar ache? When I think of joy, why must I break? Happiness, gone in the blink of an eye, As the hurt comes back, and I wonder why.
