The Reckless Things
My love's not a garden, meek and kept tame, It's a wildfire dancing, whispering your name. I'd tame every hurricane, spin it to song, And stitch a new dawn where the dark was so long. For you, I'd shift the stars to shape your name And teach the silent moon to speak my claim. I'd walk a path of thorns, barefoot and true, Just for a single, whispered word from you. I'd bargain with the sea to still its roar, And build a home for peace on distant shore. I'd wrestle time itself, to make it stall, To live forever in a single fall. For you, I'd learn the language of the rain To sing your favorite sorrow, soothe your pain. I'd tame a wolf to guard your lonely sleep, And sow the deserts wide with secrets deep. So ask of me the wild, the strange, the vast, This heart is yours—a die already cast. No mountain high, no law of earth or sky, Could stop the reckless things I'd dare to try.
