The Rebuilt Wall
I'm done to chase, done to pursue, This love that keeps escaping view. My spirit tired, my hope worn thin, I'm building up the wall again. The one I tore down, brick by brick, Now fortified, strong and quick, So never again will disappointment seize, My heart, or bring me to my knees. I choose loneliness, a quiet pact, And choose my space, intact, intact. Even if sometimes, a yearning starts, To feel the touch of loving hearts. But I'm so scared of what can happen then, Another broken heart, another bitter end. Every pursuit, turned down, time and again, A whispered "no," a never-ending pain. For all I know is being left behind, Or used and discarded, by a careless mind. So I write these words, a silent plea, To set the heavy feelings free. This is my voice, my only way, To purge the darkness of each day.
