The Rainbow After the Rain
I look back now with clearer eyes, Past the clouds and stormy skies. I see the girl who’s always been A bubbly soul, a spark within. Like a child with a heart so wide, With nothing left for her to hide, You share your world, your photos, too— The simple joy of being you. Your big break stories, the goals you’ve won, Bright and warm as the morning sun. And here I stand, with a quiet heart, Ready to play a different part. I held too tight, I was far too blind, With an adamant love of a heavy kind; But I’ve learned today, as the shadows bend, That obsession is never the mark of a friend. We are no longer a burden, a debt, or a weight, We’ve stepped past the locks of an old, rusted gate. The storm has subsided, the air is now clear, And finally, finally, the colors appear. A rainbow is stretching across our own sky, A promise of peace as the months flutter by. You showered me always with trust and with grace, An unconditional love that I can’t quite replace. So I’ll pay it back in the ways that I can, By being a steady and supportive man. Go chase your dreams where the new oceans blue, While I keep the peace and the friendship for you.
