The Quiet Room
Diary Entry I don’t know why I’m writing this. The lady said it might help. I don’t need help. Mommy used to say writing things down makes them real. I think that’s why she doesn’t like talking about what happened. She doesn’t like talking about a lot of things. Sometimes she would look at Daddy like she wanted to say something, but didn’t. I think she was scared of him. Or maybe she was scared of me. I’m not sure. Daddy said Mommy worries too much. He said she doesn’t understand how the world works. He said some people are meant to be stronger than others. Mommy didn’t like it when he said things like that. She would tell me to go to my room. But I could still hear them. She used to cry a lot. I don’t think she wanted to be there anymore. One time, she packed a bag. I thought we were leaving. But we didn’t. Daddy talked to her. After that, she stayed quiet for a long time. I think something changed that day. The night everything happened, Mommy was different. She looked at me like she was trying to remember something. Or forget it. I don’t know. She keeps telling people she’s scared of me. I don’t understand why. I’ve never done anything to her. Daddy said people lie when they’re afraid. Maybe mommy was afraid
