The Question of Independence

Are we truly independent, we must ask, Is freedom more than just a mask? Do we own our lives, or are we bound, By invisible chains all around? Financial independence, a distant dream, For many, it’s not as clear as it may seem. Are we free from debts, from daily grind, Or are we just cogs in a wheel, confined? Mental independence, do we truly possess, Or are we trapped in societal press? Thoughts shaped by norms, by others' views, Do we think freely, or do we choose? Health freedom too, we often claim, But are our choices ours to name? In a world of pressures, stress, and strife, Are we really free in body and life? So, are we truly independent, we must explore, Or is there more to freedom than we’ve asked before? True independence lies in the power to choose, In living a life where we never lose.
