The puppeteer
Every day and every hour, Every minute, moment and second, I see happy people happily roaming the streets with everyone they love carelessly. People of my gender, my nationality, and my culture. But I, and I seek refuge in God from the word “I,” have been placed by the Creator in the hands of a puppeteer, maneuvering it until it moves as people want it to see it, and therefore as people want it to see him. Unfortunately, I was created indifferent to people's opinions. When people are with their loved ones, I am caught between the sticky fingers of the timid, fearful controller. People’s opinions control him and he controls me. The heart does not allow me to escape from his fingertips, for fear that I will take his heart with me, and for fear that I will uproot myself from his heart. I wish I were like these girls. I wish I were in my world, in my good times and in my bad. I wish the lover would free me from his fake love. ~note: I am aware that the language in this poem sounds a bit strange, and that is because I had originally written it in arabic.
