the promise of a pen
1 I saw a dream, that left me cold A place familiar, where my epic's told Ancient stones stood, with secrets untold A grey-haired warrior, with eyes of old Bearing witness, to a story yet untold 2 I reached out to touch, the weathered stone And felt a pang, of regret, alone For leaving unfinished, the tale of old A story of courage, that my heart doth hold Burning to be told, in verse, so bold 3 The dream reminded me, of a promise unkept A tale of heroes, that my heart hath wept To tell the story, of a war so grand And the bravery, of a noble band Calling me to finish, what I began to stand 4 I woke with a start, and a sense of dismay For leaving unfinished, what I had to say But the dream stayed with me, and will not depart A reminder of a tale, that's still in my heart Beating to be told, and never to depart 5 I'll take up the pen, and finish what I began And tell the story, of a heroic clan And though it's taken time, I'll see it through the end And my epic story, will finally transcend Becoming a legend, that will never offend.
