The power of a name
They gave my anxiety a name They fostered my self doubt and named it Yahweh three times a week they fed it pieces of me It chewed on my confession, gulped down my guilt, and swallowed my shame. It grew with ravenous hunger until it was too large for its cage. It had become too vicious to tame. So they named my anxiety again. This time they called it sin And suddenly I was responsible for him But by now it had grown into a raging machine It had already consumed so much of me. It mass produced fear, worry, and doubt It buried me so deep I couldn't see the way out I lived with fear of hell in my heart Until I realized I was there from the start Now I give my anxiety a new name I name it trauma, and I walk away stronger.
