The Peak
We lay down together in bed, as I sometimes wonder if it would always be you, me, and the pain. The pain didn't used to bother me, it had already happened far before my time. Why could I care less, when it made no difference. Until I cared more. Unlike an old familiar red sharpness, I'm pulled by a deeper shade. As if the tallest mountain knelt for the unprepared, to reach its peak. While leaving me buried in the snowfall below. Ever searching for warmth, my mind aches. As my legs grow tired, I'm met with relief. The light of your world that you've made lifts me far above where any man can walk. And maybe one day I'll realize in our bed above the mountain, that it would always be you, me, and the peak.
