This month might seem like any other holiday, but for us, it commemorates our victory, celebrates the struggle to reclaim what rightfully belongs to us, and signifies our freedom. We were beaten, abused, treated as property, and dehumanized, simply because of our different skin tone. We were treated like creatures without the same blood flowing in our veins, as if we were animals blindly following our owners' orders. We were not given the choice to say no or yes. This month is a celebration because we understand how challenging it was to reach this point and the pain and hardships we endured. It is not just an ordinary month; it is a month we celebrate, a day created because we deserved it, and we own it. Our ancestors, who fought for our freedom, wished to see this day, even though they couldn't. They desired for others not to go through what they experienced, aspiring for us to enjoy the privilege of experiencing and witnessing such days.
