The Masquerade
A masquerade of masks and lies, A dance of secrets in disguise, Where every smile is just a guise, And every step a game. The masks we wear conceal our souls, And hide the truth that lies within, We play our parts with practiced roles, And let the dance begin. The music swells with haunting tune, And pulls us in with every beat, We lose ourselves in the cocoon, Of make-believe and deceit. Our hearts are captive to the night, And all the secrets left unsaid, We dance until the morning light, And then we go to bed. But in the quiet of our dreams, We shed our masks and let them go, And in the light of morning beams, The truth begins to show. For though the masquerade is done, And all the masks are cast aside, We find that we are not alone, And love will be our guide.
